Recipe for a Great New Year’s Eve Morning

A perfect New Year’s Eve morning starts with a bike ride.  The temperature climbed into the high 50s and the wind had subsided a little bit.  Time for some mountain biking!  We already found the geocaches in Guana the day before, so today was just for biking, and some excellent photo opps.

The first ten minutes were soft sand, manageable only due to rain two days before, but still very soft.  We explored all the open trails in the Wildlife Management Area, and the only wildlife we saw was a few squirrels. We did hear a Pileated woodpecker.  We heard it the day before as well and did not get to see him either time.  They have a very distinctive call that makes you pay attention and wish you could spot him!

The views of the river are amazing.  Dust off the hiking shoes and bikes for 2013, and go exploring at Guana or your local park.
